Honestly...I'm Not the Person Everyone Thinks I Am

Honestly..." is a word that we either use for confrontation by venting our opinions, or for connection by being proactively truthful.

  • Even when we try to "be real" we can still look for .
  • "I know, my God, that you examine our hearts and rejoice when you find integrity there." (1 Chronicles 29:17a)

What's different between what you're known for and who you are?

It's a difficult and vulnerable (yet ) thing to stand in front of God, others, and even the mirror, and be honest.

It's one thing to admit "I am a "...

it's another thing to admit, "I am a ."

Saul (1 Samuel 15:1-3a, 7-23)

v.1-3a: Honestly... how often do I hijack God's correction on others to score on my own personal ?

v.7-9: Honestly... in what ways do I make  to God's clear commands (and why do I assume it's reasonable)?

v.10-11: Honestly... when I see others who stray, do I ?

v. 12-15: Honestly... how might I  dilute to ?

v.19-21: Honestly... what's up with my "" argument?

v.22: Honestly... what am I tempted to give God  what He asks?

v.23 Honestly... will I admit that my rebellion is the  God calls it?

David (2 Samuel 11)

v.1-4: Honestly... what compromises do I see as  entitlements?

(See Deuteronomy 17:17)

v.5-9, 13-15: Honestly... how does not getting  actually ensnare me?

v.26-27: Honestly... when do I move on  moving on?

The Difference

Honestly...

  • After the gap is revealed, what will you do ?
    • You can stress by losing .
    • You can sidestep by using .
    • You can strengthen by using .
  • Thankfully, the smallest expression of God's love is exponentially greater than your largest expression of sin... and that's a  you get to .
  • It's not about spending your life saying "" to .
  • It's about spending your life saying '!' to .
