Do You Promise...?

Pastor Tom Lundeen

This series is for everyone...(% of Americans get married at least once).

The family is God's  and creation (note Genesis 2) despite the family being under constant assault...

We all live in a society that  studies have shown will benefit from healthy families (note Proverbs 24:3).

In general, marriage seems to increase the earning power of men on the order of 10 to 24 percent. This is what scholars call men's "marriage ." Research suggests that men who get and stay married live almost ten years longer than their unmarried peers. (National Review)

Married men are more likely to receive regular checkups and medical care, maintain healthy diets, exercise, and enjoy higher standards of living. In addition, married men benefit from lower levels of  and fewer -related diseases. They also receive better care during times of illness. (Population Reference Bureau)

Note 1 Peter 3:7

How I treat my wife directly impacts the  of my prayers.

1. Husbands, Love Your Wives

Note Ephesians 5:25

The example of Jesus' love being the goal for a husband to give his wife is an awesome and genuinely overwhelming one for any thoughtful and -minded man.

Note Philippians 2:5-8

 for the highest good.
Note
1 Corinthians 13:5; Colossians 3:19; Ephesians 5:18; Galatians 5:22a

2. Husbands...Honor Your Wives... (note 1 Peter 3:7)

Note Ephesians 5:28-33

Since the marriage relationship  the husband and wife into a one flesh experience, and since marriage is a  of two parts of humanity, it only makes sense (is ) to treat well the one who has become a part of himself.

"Weaker partner" is not a reference to moral stamina, strength of character, or mental capacity, but most likely strength. (Burdick)

...honoring our wives means to value, to appreciate her value, to  her value.

3. Husbands...Cherish Your Wives... (note 1 Peter 3:7)

Considerate =  of the needs and feelings of another. (Webster)

My wife's greatest need is to feel cherished. The feeling that she is more  to me than anyone or anything else. (Warren)
