The family is God's idea and creation (note Genesis 2) despite the family being under constant assault.

We all live in a society that objective studies have shown will benefit from healthy marriages and families.

"It takes wisdom to have a good family. It takes understanding to make it strong." (Proverbs 24:3, ICB)

 

Foundationally speaking...

  • ou can never be such a  parent, kid or sibling that God is  to make your family Christians.
  • You can never be such a  family member that God can't  your family members' lives.
  • It's been said, "you can choose your friends but you sure can't choose your family" - but  (because you  it).

 

Father-Style: How Families Imparted the Blessing

 

The Blessing: Typically, an investment from parent to child that imparted , encouragement and direction toward .

  • -forming language that was unique to the person
  • Details regarding any inheritance (regardless of birthright)
  •  picture of the future that reflected God in and through the giver
  • Clarity/preparation during a defining moment/transition/death
  • Examples: Genesis 27:27-29; 39-40; Genesis 49:1-2

 

Jesus-Style: How Christ Modeled the Blessing

 

The Blessing: A -based, -invitation into a larger Story, way of life and identity.

 

Spirit-Style: How We Further the Blessing

 

The Blessing: Regularly imparting gracious, -revealing identity into others so they become aware of God, His love and how He's the answer to their deepest needs/questions. (See Ephesians 4:29, NIV)

  • "Do not let any" / mē: Literally, the  of "thought" or "wish"
  • "unwholesome" / sapros: , rotten, worthless, vulgar, or slanderous capable of affecting the "whole" state of others
  • "talk" / logos: Words, discourse, doctrine, matters, reason
  • "come" / ekporeuomai: Depart or  out of
  • "out" / ek: From or away
  • "your" / hymōn:
  • "mouth" / stoma: Literal mouth, and also "" or ""
  • "(but) only" / tis: Only that which is certainly
  • "what is helpful" / agathos: , useful, pleasant, honorable and honest (which requires you being a prayerful )
  • "for building others up according to their needs" / oikodomē: Helping God assemble/construct someone together, from "today" to "then" through guidance and  
  • "that it may" / didōmi: Minister, give or  
  • "benefit" / charis:  and favor
  • "those who listen" / akouō: Hearers or the

WHO'S RUNNING THIS SHOW?

  • What if you didn't assume a blessing happens in one ?
  • What if it wasn't about tiny rules but about a larger ?
  • What if you  the extraordinary in the ordinary?
