Death Cannot Stop Him

Pastor Tom Lundeen

Elisha has modeled for us over and over again what it looks like to  a world that thinks truth is a moving target and the idea of God is obsolete...

1.  History is Not

...we need to constantly remind ourselves that despite the obvious activity of the evil one, and despite the  human beings make that lead to evil actions and outcomes, God is still at work accomplishing His purposes and fulfilling His , and that includes not only people and nations that are committed to at least acknowledging the one true and only God, but also people and nations that don't.

Note 2 Kings 8:7-15

Note 1 Kings 19:15-16

Note 2 Kings 9 and 13

Despite the world, the flesh, and the devil's work and impact and influence twisting lives and nations into various forms of dysfunction, God works despite and through it all to accomplish his will (note Daniel 2:21; 4:17; Psalm 75:7; Romans 13:1).

History is .

2.  The  is not the Victor

A. Elisha experienced what  experience (note 2 Kings 13:14a).

B. God wasn't done with Elisha just because he got  (note 2 Kings 13:14) - Dear friends, let us seek to so live that even  men may miss us when we are gone. (Spurgeon)

C. The  doesn't have the final word (note 2 Kings 13:20-21) - remember, the  points to Jesus. Note Romans 6:23a. But God uses this  moment in history to proclaim that even from tomb, resurrection life will come.

Perfectly UNEXPECTED:

  • Over  years after God used the bones of Elisha to raise a person from the dead, God did something far greater.
  • He used a , a tomb, and His Only Son, to win the greatest victory ever on earth...
  • There are no  in Jesus' tomb, because He is risen!
  • Note Ephesians 2:4-5; John 3:16
