The God of More

Pastor Tom Lundeen

So how do you and I navigate a world that thinks truth is a moving target and  is obsolete?

Today our focus is on 3 incidents in a time of famine where through Elisha, God shows that He is not limited or  by any circumstance or situation...

1. Some

Note 2 Kings 4:1; 1 Kings 19:18; Leviticus 25:39-41; Nehemiah 5:5

If she lost her sons, she would have .

So at the same time, she is being  by grief, poverty and fear.

Despite  following God, she is now facing painful and difficult times (note John 16:33).

Note 2 Kings 4:2-7

2.  Problems

Note 2 Kings 4:38-44

Ordinary people dealing with problems seemingly without .

3. The God of the Extraordinary  Our Ordinary

A.  about the circumstances (note 2 Kings 4:1, 40, 43a) - it's okay to tell God what we think, to cry, to complain (1/3 of Psalms are  psalms).

B. Embrace the challenge to  God. Being honest about how we feel is fine; but staying  by our feelings and thoughts isn't healthy... Sometimes trusting God doesn't  from a human perspective. We are constantly asked to not stay in our place of grief, pain, fear, or , but to believe what God has said.

C. Take a (note 2 Kings 4:2-5, 41a, 42c-43b) - genuine faith is never just academic/ (note James 1: 22-24). It's always making us participants in God's story, not just observers.

Perfectly UNEXPECTED:

  • In all three of these encounters, God shows He is the God  (note 2 Kings 4:6-7, 41, 43b-44).
  • All these  had a greater purpose = pointing people who thought truth was a moving target and God was obsolete back to the God who hears, heals, provides, and saves.
  • And these  also point forward to Jesus.
  • And the God of  fully revealed how much that more is through Jesus (note John 3:16; 1 John 3:16).
