What is a multisite church and why does it make sense to grow a church community in this way. And is this a new way to "do church?"

Multi-What?

Pastor Tom Lundeen

Having one church with multiple campuses while being one family is called .

It isn't a new idea in the Christian church (there are over  USA churches that are multisite and over 60 churches in the Twin Cities that are multisite).

1. What is a Multisite Church?

At Riverside, whatever campus you attend, you're not at a separate congregation with a different , with a different /vision...

Even at our Big Lake Campus, we've experienced  of multisite for many years.

One church, multiple locations, one ...that's multisite!

2. Why Multisite?

Riverside Church  to reach people and help them to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

We're engaged in using multisite as the best strategy for us because it is the most effective  for us to help us fulfill our God-given mission and vision, based on the Great Commission (note Matthew 28:18-20).

Multisite:
  • Is more -effective.
  • Has a % success rate.
  • Gets more people engaged in .
  • Helps us  both larger and smaller.
  • Provides us with the advantages of a new church  and a large church impact.
  • Opens more seats at  times when people attend church.

3. The Very  Church was Multisite

Note Luke 4:42-44; Acts 2:41-42, 46-47; 8:1; 11:22; 15:4; 4:4; 5:14

Minimum of  adults (plus kids); some scholars believe the Jerusalem Church had  or more people in it.

So how did this church do its ?

It met in large groups to hear the apostles in the Temple Courts, and in -sized groups in homes.

It wasn't possible for the  church to meet at one time in the Temple Courts.

What does it mean for Riverside to MULTIPLY?:

  • God has opened up a  door for our church to open a 3rd campus in Buffalo.
  • We are asking people here to pray about being a part of this new campus core and team...
  • And we're asking all Riversiders to take next steps in  as we now have the challenge of financially supporting all our campuses and start to rebuild our cash reserves so when God opens the next door, we can take that step without money holding us back.
