How did Jesus navigate this incredibly, humanly unfathomable amount of stress during Easter week? What kept Him going when nothing was seemingly going His way on any level?

The Mission Matters

Pastor Tom Lundeen

Because Jesus experienced incredible levels of stress throughout every week of His earthly life, when you feel stressed, know Jesus  what you're experiencing.

1. What Kind of Stress Did Jesus Encounter  Week?

A. Foreboding - Jesus knew what was in  of Him (note Matthew 16:2; Mark 9:30-32; Luke 18:31-34; John 2:18-22). When something you know is in front of you that you know could be challenging, difficult, awkward, and painful, stress and anxiety  as that time gets closer. Easter week was what His entire life  towards (note John 12:27-28a, 32-33).

B.  (note Luke 19:28; 35-40).

C.  of others (note John 12:12-18; Luke 22:24-26; Matthew 20:20-27; Luke 23:8-9; John 12:19).

D. Relationship - Easter week isn't a  for Jesus' disciples. The people closest to Him, that He loved, cared for, and had invested His life in, failed Him  (note Matthew 26:20-23, 31-35, 56b).

E. - emotionally (note Luke 22:41-44); physically (note John 19:1-3; 16-18); and  (note Matthew 27:45-46).

How did Jesus navigate this incredibly, humanly  amount of stress?

What kept Him going when  was seemingly going His way on any level?

2. Jesus Was Laser-Focused on His

Note Isaiah 50:7; Luke 9:51 (various translations)

In the chaos, pain, disappointment, frustration, and  aimed directly at Him, Jesus kept steeping towards the cross, because the cross and the empty tomb was His mission.

His  reveal this focus (John 17:1-4; Mark 14:36).

And even as He hung on the cross, His mission was  in His mind and heart (note Luke 23:34a, 42-42; John 19:30).

Jesus has His mission to every person who has said 'YES!' to Him as Lord (note John 20:21).

From Stress to Rest in 2023:

  • When we focus and engage on and in Jesus' mission, it helps us deal with stress in better ways because it:
    • Gets our  off ourselves and on to others.
    • Gives us an  perspective.
    • Reminds us of who  (note Matthew 16:18).
